3 On-Trend, Yet Timeless Window Treatments to Elevate Any Design Style

If you look at home decor magazines, flip through Pinterest or scroll Instagram, you may notice that many spaces in homes are shown without any type of window treatment. Sometimes these photos are taken before the homeowners move in and actually live in a house. Other times it is to showcase the architecture or the furnishings. Honestly though, can you really live without something on your windows? It all depends on the room, where the windows are located and how close your neighbors are.  Roman shades, roller shades and sleek drapery panels are three styles that can work with modern and transitional styled homes.

Option #1: The Crisp, Clean Lines of Roman Shades

Roman shades are made from fabric or natural woven materials and can be inside or outside mounted on the window. They are operated either with a continuous chain loop, cordlessly or motorized. Simple and streamlined they can also be dressed up a bit with fabric or trim borders. Romans work really well under stationary drapery panels and as fuax toppers over blinds, woven shades or roller/solar shades. They are versatile because they can be unlined to allow filtered light in or blackout lined to darken a room. There are so many different options that they can work in almost any space.

Option #2: The Sleek, Neutral Style of Roller Shades

Roller and solar shades have increased in popularity in recent years due to their minimalist style and ease of use. They fit well with the streamlined look of modern and transitional spaces. Used alone and mounted inside the window trim they roll up into a cassette header and completely disappear. Paired with stationary drapery panels they can provide privacy and light filtration when needed but be opened completely when desired. These shades can be continuous chain operated, cordless or motorized.

Option #3: The Long, Lean Profile of Drapery Panels

Most people think of drapery panels as a lot of fabric that might cover too much of their outside view. With proper measuring, correct fabric selection and a streamlined design, drapery can be a wonderful addition to a modern or transitional space.  Long, vertical lines of drapery panels will draw the eye upward making the room feel taller and larger.  Ripplefold panels on traverse rods can stack neatly on the outside of the window so that no view is lost. They can be closed at night for privacy or light control. If used with another treatment such as a shade, single pleated panels will soften a space and can bring in color and texture.

Don't be afraid of adding window treatments to your modern or transitional home. There are so many styles treatments, so many textures and so many colors that the options are endless. Once they are installed  in your home you will wonder why you ever considered not having them!
