3 Window Treatment Styles Perfect for Your Kitchen

Window treatments for kitchen windows should be functional as well as beautiful. They may need to provide privacy or sun protection. They may just need to soften the area and be pretty. Both can be accomplished at the same time with several different options.

Option 1: Fabulous & Functional Faux Wood Blinds or Shutters

Shutters and blinds are great choices for spaces exposed to moisture, heat and light. Composite materials, which resist fading and warping, can be specified for both blinds and shutters. Because they are easy to maintain, they are the go to choice for many homeowners.

Option 2: Stylish & Sensible Roman Shades

One of my favorite options for kitchen windows are roman shades. They can be either functional so that complete privacy can be achieved or faux where they look like they function but actually don't. Faux shades are primarily used to soften and add color/texture to the space. Because they are mounted above the window they are out of the way of splashing water from the sink. They can also be mounted close to the ceiling to draw the eye up and make the room look taller. Best of all they can add just a pop of color!

Option 3: Pretty & Practical Sheer Shades

Sheer shades have been around for years and are making a comeback especially in kitchens and bathrooms. This is mainly due to the flexibility they off for light control and privacy. Unlike roman shade (which are either open or closed), sheer shades can be rolled completely into the headrail so that the window is all the way exposed, down but with the vanes open to filter light or down with the vanes closed to block the window completely. They also come in a variety of fabrics that can be subtle or vibrant  offering many options to match any decor.

When choosing a kitchen window treatment be sure it matches the design and aesthetics of the room. Sheer shades are more suited for traditional or transitional homes. Roman shades can be either sleek and modern, textured and rustic or anything in between depending on fabrics/trims used and style of the shade. Most importantly it needs to meet your functional needs for the area.
